Milan Design Week - My Shortlist
/Before the pandemic and baby Otis days, Milan design week was the trip I looked forward to every year - a tidal wave of inspiration, I would go for 4 days and be as busy as I could possibly be - immersing myself in this visual bombardment that feels like the very centre of the design world.
This year will be my first visit to Milan for a few years, and whilst I only have 24 hours from when the plane hits tarmac, I intend to make the most of that limited time.
Given the time is so short, planning is everything. And with a never ending list of must-see and must-experience things to do, I have put together a shortlist of the most desired gems from my research.
The collective show Brassless, which is part of the FAR program curated by StudioVedèt.
Alcova’s showcase combining a pair of adored villas: modernist Villa Borsani and the Lombard Baroque-style Villa Bagatti Valsecchi.
Rhode Island’s first-ever global multidisciplinary presentation of work: Objects May Shift by Rhode Island School of Design.
David Lynch’s thinking room: An immersive, other worldly experience with a simple narrative to cross the mirrored room.
Rude Arts Club by Faye Toogood, known for her minimal, structural furniture pieces.
THINGS TO DO IN MILAN
I would normally never leave without a visit to villa Necchi and Fondazione Prada but as I have such little time, I will try and resist it so I can find new favourites.
PLACES TO EAT
One of my absolute favourite restaurants when I’m in Milan is the Giacomo Milano.
And before crawling back to my basic room at the airport I will be sure to have a negroni or 3 at Bar Brasso!
I will be celebrating Rubelli and Luke Edward Hall & Cabana at Ralph Lauren, and I can’t wait!
